5 Quick Home Repair Tips that Cost Next to Nothing | Chevy Chase, MD

Owning (or even renting) your own home means that you likely know some basic home repair tricks. Every homeowner knows a few things about keeping their home running. Plus, simple home repair tricks can save you a lot of money in the long run, because calling a professional for every little thing can really add up.

So if you're looking for a few quick, simple projects that won't cost and arm and a leg to do, these tips are for you.

#1. What's that noise? Got a squeak, a creak, or a sharp metal-to-metal grind in a door or drawer? Then simply spray some WD-40 on the source. It'll lubricate and stop that annoying noise. Plus, it'll fix sliding doors that stick, remove decals in the bathtub, and so much more.

#2. Peeled wallpaper. If you have wallpaper that is coming up, all you need is some wallpaper paste and a putty knife and you can say goodbye. Apply under the paper, smooth it out, and let it dry for about a half hour. The peel is gone, and is is the eyesore.

#3. Stained bathtub. Take cream of tartar, baking soda, and lemon juice, make a paste. Rub the concoction into the stain, let its sit until dry, rinse with water. Stains will run in terror.

#4. Sealing drafts. Caulk is a wonderful product that every home should have. You can use it to seal around drafty windows, around bathtubs, and even outdoors to stop insects from coming in.

#5. Blistered paint. The paint on the bathroom ceiling can, over time, blister and peel, allowing heat and moisture to reach ceiling drywall. This is no good. Fix this by simply scraping off the old paint, and applying a durable, moisture-resistant, exterior paint. No more peeling.

Not every issue around your home means you have to dip into your savings. With a little bit of knowledge and bit of tenacity, every homeowner has the potential to get the job done.

But for the hard jobs, we're here to help. Got a home repair project that requires a professional? Feel free to contact us for more information on how we can help you.
