5 Tips to Help Ease Your Kitchen Remodeling Woes | Bethesda, MD
So you're planning a big kitchen remodeling plan. Great! Nothing adds value to your home than an updated kitchen packed full of amenities. A kitchen should be functional without being dated, be fancy without looking pretentious, and be classy without forcing it. Sound complicated? It's not.
Here are some tips to help you get that kitchen you've always wanted, without the stress you've anticipated.
Try to envision your new kitchen with at least 36" wide walkways. This will help it later you plan to add an island, or plan to expand the kitchen in size. For areas around stoves and cooktops, try and shoot for a larger berth for safety, somewhere near the 42" range.
For kitchens with mounted microwaves, adjusting for height should be priority. There is no standard, rather, whatever fits the home-chef in question. As a rule, though, shoot for at least 15" above the counter. Less so if kids are involved.
Island in the Streams
Don't have an island? Consider adding one. For those who do have one, decide on its function. Is it for eating? Does it have a cooktop built-in? Do you have kids? If so, do they use it for other activities? How you use it (and design it) has a major effect on the kitchen's flow and design.
Lacking counter space in a kitchen is perhaps the worst design flaw. So when you are planning your resign, adding more than you need is never a bad thing. Add space on either sides of your cooktop or stove, and extra landing space near your microwave. In this case, more is always better.
Color and Contrast
Depending on the size of your kitchen, your color plays an important role. For small kitchens, use a lighter color to make it appear larger. For large kitchens, the impact your color makes will be more important in terms of what's going on around it. So, choose multiple color palettes to start, and play around until you are satisfied.
